______________________
Just looked through your Lee genealogy posted on Roots Web and noticed a couple of errors which I thought I would bring to your attention. I am a Lee family researcher; descendent of William & Dicy 'Ennis' Lee.
Error #1.
James Henry Lee was married twice. His first wife was Amanda Jackson, d/o Lewis Jackson. James Henry Lee married Amanda Jackson, on Feb 25, 1858, in Johnson Co., Arkansas: Recorded in Book N, on page 25. They were the parents of one child before Amanda died in 1859; likely during childbirth. James Henry Lee appears on the 1860 U.S. census as a widower with daughter, Mary Elizabeth in his household. Mary Elizabeth was born on Jan. 9, 1859. Shortly after the taking of the 1860 census, James Henry Lee married wife #2, Penelope Copeland. James Henry and Amanda 'Jackson' Lee's daughter, Mary Elizabeth Lee, married Samuel John Moore, s/o John Moore & Martha Caroline Johnson, on Nov. 19, 1874, in Sarber Co., (later Logan Co.) Arkansas. She and Samuel Moore became the parents of eight children. Mary Elizabeth and Samuel Moore both died in Polk Co., Arkansas, and were buried in the Nunnley Cemetery. I have names of the children if you want them.
Error #2.
The October, 1980 issue of 'Wagon Wheels' published by the Logan Co., Historical Society, contained an article by Joe Carter, in which he, in error, assigns "Susan Lee who married a man named Thompson" as the daughter of William and Dicey 'Ennis' Lee. This erroneous imformation has been accepted as truth by several Lee researchers. I offer the following evidence as proof of it's in-validity. On August 25, 1845, Susan Lee married Nicholas Thompson, in Johnston Co., North Carolina. They became the parents of six children. The 1860 U.S. census report for Johnson Co., Arkansas, indicates that, the first five of these six children, were born in North Carolina. The youngest daughter, John Della, was born on April 25, 1854, in Johnson Co., Arkansas. William and Dicey Lee left Johnston Co., North Carolina, some time during the 1820s: The birth state of Tennessee, given on later census reports for some of their children, and their arrival date in Arkansas, thought to be during the late 1840s, would make it necessary for a teenage daughter, Susan Lee to have returned to North Carolina, in order to be married there during 1845. Susan 'Lee' Thompson, is in fact the daughter of John Lee, William S. Lee's older brother. John Lee was the last of three Lee brothers to migrate from North Carolina to Arkansas. John Lee outlived most of his children; he died in Logan Co., Arkansas during 1882, at age ninety seven. John Lee's property went through probate court, as he left no legal will. The husband of one of his grand daughters, John Hansel Trusty, was named adm. of the estate. Legal heirs were named on this document, identifying as grand daughters, two children of Susan 'Lee' Thompson. Susan 'Lee' Thompson did not die until 1885, but was not named as an heir to any of John Lee's property: She had earlier been declared "insane" and had been assigned legal guardians. I have a copy of John Lee's probate if you would like it.
