      Research: (AFN:303D-17)
1 (68) says he died 1665. to NE 1633, settled at Braintree 1635.
[See note on second wife; the LDS records are off.]
[I cannot find either Bumpstead Steeple Parish or Braintree in the map s o f towns or parishes Somersetshire?]
[The AF gives 26 Aug 1671 as death date in Plymouth Co., MA and buria l a s 2 May 1648 isn't that George' Allen's burial date in Sandwich? Yup , i t is.] Christening 1622, Chelmford, Essexshire, England [suspect, eve ryth ing else this 'researcher' did was wrong.] Interesting, the AF say s he an d Ann were married in Braintree in 1630. [That's the same year he 's suppo sed to have arrived; it is possible? And Anne Whitmore's fathe r was suppo sed to have brought his family to Mass. Bay abt 1635.]

The AF 9N9F-VV says he and Margaret were married in 1642 in Braintree.

1, p.(24) says that Joseph was born in 1634, which would give him a diff e rent mother. and that Mary was born in 1741. Hum!?

      2 , p. (15): "Samuel, sawyer, Boston, Braintree, frm. May 6, 1635. [Se e s ons of George, above.] He married Ann, who d. 29 (7) 1641. He m. 2, M arga ret, a widow of Edward Lamb. Ch. Joseph b. May 15, 1650, Sarah b. i n Br . 30 (1) 1639.

AF lists Abigail under Sam and Margaret b. 1651 at Braintree, Norfolk[si c ], MA; and Elizabeth also (P27K-ZW) deleted; there are no spouses or is su e listed.

There is also a listing for an Obediah under first wife which disagree s w ith Banks' record; not deleted because spouse and descendents are inc lude d. Obediah is the son of Samuel Allen of Windsor CT.

Editorial comment: I think it is sad that Charles Edward Banks made su c h extensive use of William Allen's 1882 genealogy of the Allen family , u p to and including quoting him directly, and did not have the grace t o ac knowledge his sources. Banks speaking of the descendants of James Al len ( v2, 1911) says " the progenitor of the Vineyard Allens now scattere d ove r this land from Maine to California," while William Allen (1882 al so spe aking of James' descendants) says, "who are now scattered from Mai ne to C alifornia." Family histories are no less part of the history o f a famil y than the people and events involved and to plaigarize is no t only steal ing, it is a lie and a distortion of history itself! "Thou s halt not stea l." Certainly times change, and styles, but Banks put himse lf forward a s a sort of icon of scholarship and father of a new sort o f accurate gene alogy-this lie negates that scholarship severely. I am no t impressed. Per haps this is the place to record this. I believe that Ba nk's wife retype d his notes; sometimes she had difficulty telling his sq uared-off old sty le 3s from his fives and any date with a 5 in it must t herefore be suspec t. I have corrected three that I have found to be inco rrect in primary so urces.

There was a Partridge family who were influencial in early New Hampshir e ; one was colonial govenor. Could Sarah be of this family? My reason f o r thinking this is that another prominent family was Whitmore; one of t he se was govenor too. Sarah's mother-in-law was named Whitmore. There w a s a Samuel Allen involved too, unrelated, so those ancestors must be so rt ed out. both Sarah and Anne do not fit with any families known in Mass ach usetts at the time. Oh and these NH families were known quakers or si mpat hizers. NH
