Notes |
- The earliest immigrant was William Newsom arriving on the "George" about August 1635 in James City, Virginia. The latest arrival was Johan Tonin aboard the "Kaiser Wilhelm de Grosse" in 1902. Johan came from a tiny mountain village named Hrusevko to Waukegan, Illinois.

Seeking data on Solomon Newsom b. 1783 NC. Married Rebecca Dearman and migrated to St. Clair Co. AL. He is mentioned in various documents in St. Clair and in 1834 purchased land in Pickens Co. AL. He is on the 1830 AL census with 4 sons and two daughters. In 1940 he is on the census in Lauderdale Co. MS. Also on this census are John, William and Albert Newsom who may be three of his sons. One daughter, Martha Caroline Newsom b. 1818 in AL, married Henry Creel of Jones Co. and resided there until her death about 1900. Rebecca died before 1850 census and Solomon is now married to widow Elizabeth Smith. Need to locate Solomon's birthplace and parents, sibling and death date and burial place. Also need documentation for Rebecca and the children. I believe the sons remained in MS but have not tracked them completely yet. Also interested in identifying Littleberry Newsom who lived in AL in 1819. What is his relationship to Solomon? Thanking all of you out there who might be able to shed light on this longtime mystery.

Excuse me. The date should read 1840 in Lauderdale Co. MS on census. He is also on the 1860 census in Jones Co. MS near his daughter Martha.

This is new look at problem. I have Solomon and the family living in Lauderdale Co. in the 1840's. I know that there was a family tie to St. Clair Co. but would like to know why Rebecca was living there when she died. Is she buried in the family cemetery at Steele? Do you know if she had a will or any estate matter in Lauderdale or St. Clair relating to her death? Thank you for your reply.
