      JOHN WEBSTER OF MASSACHUSETTS. (Mary Webster2 and Hannah
      Webster2) JOHN WEBSTER1 born in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, came to
      America and settled at Ipswich, Massachusetts, in 1632. He was made Free m an
      in Boston, Massachusetts, 1635. Proprietor in 1634. Clerk of bonds 164 2 . Applied
      for land and received a grant of land by the Creek. (From Massachusett s C olonial
      Records). He was a member of the

      Woodman party in Church affairs. He married Mary Shatswell (sometimes sp e lled
      Satchwell). (She had four brothers who came to America, John, Richard, C u rwin,
      and Theophilus Shatswell). He died November 4, 1646, and his widow marri e d
      (2) John Emery on August 28, 1650. At the request of the widow, the esta t e of
      John Webster was equally divided between his children. She died April 2 8 , 1694,

      WEBSTER
      John Webster came from Ipswich, Eng., settled in Ipswich, Mass.; was Fre e man in
      1635. He married, Mary Shatswell. Their children were, John, Thomas, Ste p hen,
      Nathan, Israel, and four daughters. He died in 1647.

      Thomas Webster, born in 1632, lived in Hampton, N. H.; married in 1656 ; d ied in
      1715. His children were: Ebenezer, Thomas, Nathaniel, and others.

      Ebenezer Webster, son of Thomas, was a grantee of Kingston, N. H., in 16 9 2; his
      son, Hon. Ebenezer, born in 1739, settled in Salisbury in 1763.

      Thomas Webster, son of Thomas of Hampton, married Mary Greely of Haverhi l l,
      January 19, 1717. His son, Thomas, married Judith Morse in 1738. Their c h ildren
      were: Levi, Enoch and Caleb.

      Caleb Webster, born in 1751, died in 1808; married Mary Tilton of Hampto n , N. H.
      The children were: Elijah Clough and Mary. By second wife (Abigal French ) : Sally,
      Levi, Lois, Nathaniel, Betsy, Eunice, Abigal, Caleb, Samuel.

      Caleb Webster, son of Caleb, born in 1791, married Hannah Peaslee in 182 6 . Their
      children were: Sidney and Warren.

      WEBSTER, ??JOHN, was a magistrate of Connecticut in 1639, and elected
      governour in 1656. Within about four years afterwards, he, with three ot h ers
      of the name, Mr. Russell, the minister of Weathersfield, and other assoc i ates,
      purchased the territory included in the towns of Hadley, Hatfield, Granb y , and
      Amherst, Mass., and removed thither. He died at Hadley 1665. See Lord's
      Lempriere, Holmes' and Trumbull. The great lexicographer of our countr y i s one
      of his descendants. JOHN, came from Ipswich, England, as early as 1634 , a nd
      settled at Ipswich; was probably the one admitted freeman 1635, and di e d before
      1647, leaving a widow, who m. John Emery, and 4 sons: John, b. 1632, m . A nna
      Batt 1653; Stephen, Nathan, Israel, and 4 daughters. The sons of Natha n w ere,
      John, Nathan, and Samuel, of whom Samuel was father of Rev. Samuel Webst e r,
      D. D., of Salisbury, b. 1718, grad. 1737, died 18 Jan. 1796. It is suffi c ient honour
      for this family that it includes among its descendants one of the greate s t orators
      and statesmen of this or any other country. JOHN, who is styled a brewe r , was
      of Portsmouth, and a constable. He d. in 1662. There was a John Webste r , a
      blacksmith, early at Haverhill. JOHN, a baker, was admitted inhabitan t o f Salem,
      29 Jan. 1638. THOMAS, an early inhabitant of Hartford, is mentioned by
      Trumbull, i. Hist. Conn. 69. Perhaps he was of Hadley in 1665. THOMAS,
      Massachusetts, was admitted freeman 1644. WILLIAM, of Hadley, was born
      in 1617.
