Margaret Bell was the daughter of George Bell, a shipbuilder. There are court documents that show that George Bell had been appointed to be the guardian of George and Charles Cogdell after the death of their father, John Cogdell, who died in 1712. They complained that he was not providing properly for them or seeing to their education. Apparently, they WERE learning something about his trade, since Charles Cogdell's sons later became masters of ocean-going ships and operators of ferries in the Winyah Bay area of South Carolina. They were later connected with the Shackelford family in SC. Margaret Cogdell's will is available online and gives details about her children, including Revolutionary patriot Richard Cogdell. I have more information, but this is getting too long already!
